2023 Book & Life Wrap Up ❤️

(Picture Credit: Pinterest - Kimberly C Miller) And with that the 2023 season comes to an end – credit the sound on TikTok I have yet to use when my year actually goes well.   Wow. This year for me has been one of books, realisation and for finally fighting for myself. So, I went from becoming a law graduate (3 years ago lol) to finally going towards a career my heart longed for; PR & Literary Agent. It’s hard out their guys. Getting your first editorial assistant job in the fiction world is not for the faint hearted. With a lack of professional experience, trying to make it in a competitive field sometimes makes my self-doubt spike to an all time high. A lot of recognizing the bad people, cutting out the toxic ones. 2024 is definitely the year of turning over a new leaf.  I...

King of Greed - Ana Huang

(4/5 Stars) This review is long overdue but I was just re-reading it like, oh 20 times! I've seen some mixed reviews about these books and honestly, I don't know why. It's nothing but swoon-worthy. If you've read any of the books from the Twisted Series then you know Mr Alex Volkov was the king of grovelling and Ava Chen made sure to make it him do it right ( Twisted Love) . If you know you know 💙 . When I saw people comparing Dom's grovelling to that it seemed a bit rash because well the tropes are completely different and so are the characters. In my opinion, it was done right considering the history they had which Alex and Ava lacked when it came to that scene. I admired how Alessandra built herself whilst fixing her marriage and it was hilarious how ...

The Twisted Series - Ana Huang

Once upon a time Christian Harper popped up on my TikTok and that was all I needed to spiral my way down and into the ‘Twisted Series’ by Ana Huang. So, what can you expect from the series, who’s my favourite couples, what’s my favourite book and who carried it all? Well let’s find out. From Twisted Love to Twisted Lies, here’s what I really think about this Billionaire phenomenon. The short answer? I loved every page, chapter and second of reading these paper pages. Everything. I totally get the hype. From the plot to the characters, this was one of the best interconnected series I have come across in a very long time. A lot of people write them with only a few doing it right. I mean some of these books were long and I ached for them to be longer. If that doesn’t speak volumes, I don’t know what else will. This series is revolved around 4 best college friends (Ava Chen, Bridget Von Ascheberg, Jules Ambrose & Stella Alonso) and their story from experiencing the ...

The Dreamland Billionaire Series - Lauren Asher

I was in two minds about how to go when reviewing these books. The chronological part of me wanted to do 3 separate ones but the optimist in me chose otherwise. I love Lauren Asher. After Ana Huang, she does the most amazing Billionaire books however I think one 1 of the books, Booktok really mislead me. I was a bit apprehensive buying this series in the first place just because Ana Huang set such high standards that I didn’t want that to be my compass when rating Lauren Asher’s books. Whilst they both do tropes we love, they do it very differently which was a. so refreshing and b. gave me peace of mind when spending on them. Sometimes it can get repetitive like the whole single dad, nanny trope but nope. Not this time. The ‘Dreamland Billionaire’ series has an engraved space on my bookshelf. It wouldn’t be an honest review if I didn’t tell you the truth though; on my Instagram I initially posted this as a mediocre (like over the top bad) book series. I don’t know why I did tha...

Sinners Condemned and Sinners Consumed – Somme Sketcher

(5/5 Stars - Please. As if she ever wrote a mediocre book) If you thought Angelo Visconti was THAT man, then you don’t even know how hot and bothered the remaining Visconti brothers can get you. Boy does Somme Sketcher really know how to write ‘gentlemen’. This is a duo starring Raphael  Visconti who owns pretty much every casino in Las Vegas and Penelope (Penny) Price who is essentially a swindler. Whilst Penny makes her appearance back in Devils Dip after some time away, she doesn’t quite understand the who or the what about the next man she goes to swindle. Did I mention she succeeds with that same dangerous gentleman becoming her boss later on in the book? Or the fact that this man has a YACH CASINO? Hmm. Maybe you’ll need to read the books to see how much integrity my book reviews carry. The age-gap trope gets me every, single, time. Got me good this time round to. Penny is an outspoken, hard-headed, strong female character. She has insecurities alongside some fears...

The American Roommate Experiment - Elena Armas

(4.5 Stars - Sorry but Aaron Blackford was the first one to steal my heart) There’s something about the fake dating trope that gets me every damn time. Or maybe it’s just that whatever Elena Armas writes I really like though I’m not going to lie, The Long Game is proving that theory very wrong. Anyways….. Rosie and Lucas, ah, my little oblivious roommates. I have noticed that one book from a duo is always lacking. Since The Bellinger Sisters Duo by Tessa Bailey, nothing has ever hit the spot until now. Rosie is an engineer turned author who is struggling to write her next best seller after her first one went viral! She doubts herself and has a plot but finds it hard to write down what she knows. Whilst Lina is away on her honeymoon,  a change in circumstances lands a flustered Rosie in Linas apartment. The best bit? Lucas also shows up the same day, and it just gets better from there....  A book about a struggling engineer turn author made it feel – at times – as if El...

The Cat & Mouse Duo (Haunting Adeline & Hunting Adeline) - H.D. Carlton

(5/5 stars but a very dark romance. Research TW before reading.  Fiction, Thriller, Erotic Literature, Mystery ) Okay so, H.D Carlton was not messing around. This was an oddly comforting journey to read despite the nature of it all. I don't even know how I got to this side of book-tok, but wow. When Tiktok hyped up Zade Meadows, they were not joking. This would be a good place to say that HD Carlton is not glamourising anything he did. She has said multiple times that someone like Zade should end up in jail. Please don’t go looking for a man like Zade or aspire to become a stalker one thank you very much. This was such a quest to read. From getting stalked, to solving a crime, to then becoming a victim of it. I could not put the book down. I mean, the plot twist was insane. I didn't see Claire as the ring leader. I'd say that for sure. Essentially this book is about Zade Medows who operates his own organisation Z with the sole objective to help young children escape from th...

Sinners Anonymous - Somme Sketcher

(5/5 Stars) BookTok really did its job in selling Somme Sketcher. I don’t remember how but I definitely thank the book lords for blessing my bookshelf with  Sinner Anonymous  aka Angelo Visconti and Rory Carter’s story. Mafia/Made Men Romance is for sure a genre of its own - I was lucky enough to have Somme Sketcher as one of the first authors to introduce me to it. So why am I hyperventilating over a fictional couple you ask? I’ll tell you why. Sinners Anonymous  is a forbidden romance about a Made Man gone straight (or so he tried) after the death of his mother but also the murder of his father. Angelo Visconti (the oldest brother) goes to London to start a new life away from all the morally grey activities only to have second thoughts about staying in his home – Devil’s Dip – during a short trip all bec...

Wildfire - Hannah Grace

(4/5 Stars) So, am I like the last one to review this book? Maybe, but I'm going to tell you why. I didn't think anything could top Icebreaker for me when it came to Hockey Romances. Normally, in series, everything feels a bit repetitive, but boy, did Hannah Grace put me in my place. This is honestly the first book I've read with a hockey player who's not the typical arrogant, overconfident MC. Russ, aka my little muffin, was such a refreshing character in contrast to Aurora. I loved the setting of a summer camp to break away from the same placement of Icebreaker, which was heavily based in Maple Hills. The background element of it was enough. Russ and Rory mirrored each other in many ways, but my fave was the daddy issues and vulnerability of them both despite Rory being covert about it. The spice...

Icebreaker - Hannah Grace

(5/5 Stars) An easy 5 star read with a lot of spice. This bedside read made all my wattpad dreams come true back in 2022. My first hockey romance and definitely not my last. This wasn't a planned purchase, although booktok had made its dent in my mind to keep a look out for it. One impromptu session later to a book shop - because who doesn't - it went from THE shelf to MY shelf. I really enjoyed the characters and the complexity of it all. One character really irked me - if you've read it, you know who! Nate Hawkins is your perfect book boyfriend, and Anastasia Allen is a strong, determined girl ready to do anything to make her dreams come true. I'm glad they evolved together but also as individuals apart. It's true to the college experience it's based around, with A LOT of spicy scenes. Hannah Grace does not disappoint. With it b...

The Spanish Love Deception - Elena Armas

I regret to inform you that you do in fact not know what the world ‘Slow-burn’ means. Only Elena Armas does; she re defined it in on the February 21 st 2021. Yes, that’s right. I’m on about THAT book. That’s the one. You know the one with Aaron and Catalina where it takes them the END of the book to kiss. Mhmm. The Spanish Love Deception or how I like to say it ‘Get on with it Araon’. My book palette has gone from slowly growing to evolved rapidly over night. I’m still not done with my vanilla books. If you read my previous blog post, and I know if you have, you’ll know that I have been corrupt minded by Tessa Bailey who doesn’t even house the world slow-burn in her vocabulary. Then comes along Miss Elena Armas and boy did she put me in my place. If Tessa Bailey was edging, Elena Armas took teasing to a new dimension. My style of writing doesn’t involve reciting the blurb of a book word for word. If you have come to my page, chances are you aren’t sure whether to buy the boo...
