I regret to
inform you that you do in fact not know what the world ‘Slow-burn’ means. Only
Elena Armas does; she re defined it in on the February 21st 2021.
Yes, that’s right. I’m on about THAT book. That’s the one. You know the one
with Aaron and Catalina where it takes them the END of the book to kiss. Mhmm.
The Spanish Love Deception or how I like to say it ‘Get on with it Araon’.
My book
palette has gone from slowly growing to evolved rapidly over night. I’m still
not done with my vanilla books. If you read my previous blog post, and I know
if you have, you’ll know that I have been corrupt minded by Tessa Bailey who
doesn’t even house the world slow-burn in her vocabulary. Then comes along Miss
Elena Armas and boy did she put me in my place. If Tessa Bailey was edging,
Elena Armas took teasing to a new dimension.
My style of
writing doesn’t involve reciting the blurb of a book word for word. If you have
come to my page, chances are you aren’t sure whether to buy the book and I’m
here to spill the tea. And the tea in this case? BUY IT. Catalina Martin and
Aaron Blackford are not messing around. Well, they are but towards the end of
the book. Okay that’s enough I can’t talk about the messing I start
blushing.
The Spanish
Love Deception is probably one of the most slow-burn, agitating book I have
ever read…..in a good way. It’s one of those that I just COULD NOT PUT DOWN
until once, just once Araon kissed Lina. Didn’t have to be the lips could be
anywhere. This was either very good marketing or a genius author. I’ll let you
figure this one out.
Book-Tok
was the reason I ever added TSLD in my basket and If I ever made a wise
decision in my life, this was it. This was my first fake-dating trope I have
read and it will not be my last. The angst between the main characters, the
history, the current was all so well explored. Even though at times I was on
the edge of my seat thinking this was the big breakthrough, I can’t deny the
fact that I did secretly love the slow pace of it all. It made sense. These two
enemies were not going to go to lovers overnight. There were times were Mr.
Blackford literally said (indirectly) ‘Lina I am so head over heels for you’
that it only made the end subject that much more sentimental.
People
always say the words are the most important factor when writing and they are
that’s the whole point however a poor plot can never be overlooked with good
words. The plot throughout this was so well mapped out even into the second
book; The American Roommate Experiment. I have read so many of the same
trope books after TSLD and it just doesn’t come up to par mainly because
this novel held balance which many others do not. A healthy amount of time was
spent with past Araon and Lina to the present day one. It touched up on a lot
of issues that were true to the world almost to the point where I though I was
Catalina Martin for a second. Solving through those issues, innocent flirting
in Spain, confronting an ex which is such an expecting for all the readers. It
really made sure to touch up and dive into every aspect with angst.
One thing I
HATE are the break-ups because the getting back together are too cheesy for my
heart to handle. It’s normally consisting of ‘I love you John I messed up’ and
‘I love you to Stacey kiss me’. Like cheesy with extra cheese on top. I
don’t like it. However, the meeting between the last living member of Aaron’s
family and Lina was so heart-wrenching, real and pure. For once, I enjoyed a
couple reconciliation. My only complaint was that I wanted another one but I’m
afraid we have to leave the rest up to my own imagination. What would they be
doing right now?
Side note; the song I could see a trailer to this for is for sure Kiss Me Slowly - Parachute. Oh my heart.
Next in
line in my reviews is The American Roommate Experiment and I’m still
reading through the first in the duology; The Long Game. It’s giving,
obsessed, sports and steamy.
And no, I
have not somehow forgotten to mention that Aaron and Lina are coming to the big
screens, I simply don’t talk about it because if I do I become too hyper over
the fact of lack of release date and cast. If I don’t mention it, I don’t have
to think about it and thinking about Aaron and Lina doing STEAMY STUFF on the
big screen? Please stop I’m blushing again. I have a career to build no time to
combust into Lina sized Spanish flames. I just pray to the romance Gods that they do it justice.
I hope I
didn’t give away too many spoilers in the book. The last I want to do is recite
the blurb word for one AND giving away the ending. It’s not cool.
Until the
next review, I’m signing out but don’t forget to check out my thoughts on Elena
Armas’s last book in the duology.
Vivian.
Don’t forget to
keep reading, because as long as you do, it’s making a struggling authors day
that much better. Reach for the starts of success.
