There’s something about the fake dating trope that
gets me every damn time. Or maybe it’s just that whatever Elena Armas writes I
really like though I’m not going to lie, The Long Game is proving that
theory very wrong. Anyways…..
Rosie and Lucas, ah, my little oblivious roommates. I
have noticed that one book from a duo is always lacking. Since The Bellinger
Sisters Duo by Tessa Bailey, nothing has ever hit the spot until now.
Rosie is an engineer turned author who is struggling to write her next best seller after her first one went viral! She doubts herself and has a plot but finds it hard to write down what she knows. Whilst Lina is away on her honeymoon, a change in circumstances lands a flustered Rosie in Linas apartment. The best bit? Lucas also shows up the same day, and it just gets better from there....
A book about a struggling engineer turn author made it
feel – at times – as if Elena was talking about herself through Rosie.
Something about that was really comforting, the concept of it hit home a bit
when it came to turning a passion into a career. I have loved fiction books for
as long as I can remember and since then my life has ever been the same since.
In such a competitive community where a lot of posts are given attention due to
it being ‘Bookstagram worthy’, it can be hard for someone like me who likes
to dissect a book by talking through the stages with a heart felt review. So, I
get Rosie. Motivation is key even if it’s by doing something ridiculous like
taking magic mushroom……..or FAKE DATING. I’d like to confirm I’m nor stupid or
lucky enough to indulge in either of these things. Unfortunately, my words run
like my mouth; devastating.
Lucas Martin is every girl wet dream on the outside but on the inside he’s just like any other human; insecure, don’t know what for (One Direction). I’m joking but, in all seriousness, how his drive was ripped away form him due to one accident hurts my heart. The journey of him finding something else with Rosie helping him along the way from the first meal to signing up to culinary school was beautiful. It’s a journey not many like to be a part of until the Glitz and Glam is reached. Whilst Lucas is finding his own two feet, he offers to help Rosie write her next best seller after hearing her express to Lina how she wants her old job back……..and her string of bad boyfriends. See, there are perks to having the window opened that doesn’t involve your apartment being broken into. If you read Chapter 1, you will get the reference.
Elena outdid herself. There was such a balance between the two characters. If you read TSLD, then you know about Rosie and her pre-existing crush on Lucas. Like Instagram stalking infatuation. It's all playful fun and games until Lucas offers to play fake dating with Rosie to get her creativity flowing again after overhearing her talk about her string of failed relationships with Lina on the phone. See! Opening windows don't always lead to robbery. Sometimes, they lead to getting a walking, talking wet dream ☁️☁️☁️
I was thrilled with how much of an appearance Aaron and Lina made. I’m pretty sure she was pregnant at the end although we will never know unless Elena tells us. The bond between the two cousins was so heart-warming but funny at the same time. The protectiveness over her best friend was top tier and I also really enjoyed that Aaron was pulling Lucas’s leg a bit knowing how turbulent his love experience was with his wife. I loved how much we got to see if Aaron and Lina were. The relationship Lucas had with his cousin was both heart-warming and still being funny. He even got a smile out of Aaron.
Whilst Rosie is struggling with doubting herself, Lucas mirrors her in his own way. With an injury that changed his life forever, now he's on the hunt to find that missing piece of himself whilst also lying to his family about his condition.
I appreciate how they mature together and lean on each other for support. With them dealing with so many similar issues, its a nice break for both of them fake dating, but obviously, we all knew that line would get blurred easily. Aaron and Lina ring a bell? 🔔
This was so long overdue and the last Elena Armas review for a while. I will let you fill in the blanks on how well I'm getting along with her new release.
My fave
part was the first date and dancing to ABBA 🎵💃What was yours?
Vivian.
Don’t forget to
keep reading, because as long as you do, it’s making a struggling authors day
that much better. Reach for the starts of success.
