A fiction
book blogger isn’t just all about reading and spilling it all out onto paper.
There is so much more that goes into curating posts and sharing bookish content
than what meets the eye.
Here’s a
peek behind the scenes of my process:
1. Book Selection – it all begins with
selecting the right books. Whether it’s through recommendations, publisher
outreach, or simply discovering hidden gems through networking, I very
carefully choose titles that excite me whilst aligning with mine and my audience's
interests.
2. Keep it balanced – I never post the
same trope twice in the same week and I make sure to keep it real. Not every
read is a 5-star one even if the whole book world is saying it is and the same
goes for 2-star reads. Don’t be biased.
3. Reading and reviewing – the obvious
and my most treasured part. After diving into a book, I take frequent notes
after taking a break, highlight passages, and reflect on the following: story,
plot, character, and themes. This way I can craft thoughtful, honest reviews,
not biased ones.
4. Creating visuals – though I’m still
playing around with my blog layout and how I want my front images to look, it’s
time to get creative on Canva. From styled flat lays to unique photoshoots with
books in my hand, I make sure every visual captures the essence of the book,
the impact it has had on me, and brings it to life.
5. Crafting engaging content – whether
it’s a post, story, or reel, I spend time crafting engaging captions and
content that connects with my thoughts and community. When you first start out,
it’s trial and error to figure out which posts get more views. So yes, the
aesthetic is the main part because it’s what catches the eyes but also sharing
your thoughts, posing questions, and encouraging discussions are what keeps the
engagement high.
6. Engagement and community building –
this takes time. A lot longer than I anticipated. I only recently got reposted
on one of my favourite indie author’s stories – Somme Sketcher – after I posted
a review of one of her duets. She also commented. The work never stops. It’s
not just about what I post, it’s about going to other people's and engaging
with their posts to get noticed too.
7. Networking and collaboration –
Networking is essential for anything. Collaborating with authors, brands,
content creators, and small business owners helps me grow, learn, and stay
inspired. It’s also the hardest bit so get ready for some no-shows and dead
ends.
You see
behind every book review regardless of if it’s on my blog or Instagram, I’m
there to show my editing skills and dedication to literary. I’m very grateful
for the small milestones I have made and despite the setbacks, I’m so ready
come 2025 to get more recognition. If you love reading as much as I do, the
struggles are like the fruit to your patience. It’s rewarding more than it is
frustrating.

of success.
