The Monster Trilogy - Rina Kent

(Guess the rating?)

It’s been a long time coming. I read 2 pages from Blood of My Monster and put it down. Then after reading the whole RES series by Rina Kent, I revisited it and I ask myself the same question every time. Why on earth do I take so long to read the most hyped books? I want to be Sasha. I want to be Solnyshko.

I read the Deception Trilogy after the Monster trilogy and the difference in the writing, flow, plot and editing was so distinct. The editor in me was having a meltdown, the reader in me got frustrated and the blogger in me was just so thrilled to rip it all apart.

We have three installments. Blood of My Monster, Lies of My Monster and Heart of My Monster.  It’s based around family revenge, false accusations and of course the one thing that messes up everything; miscommunication. Heartbreak and love are inevitable in every book especially that one of Rina Kent. I always had a thing for the Italian and some what of a loose interest in the Russian ever since meeting Danielle Lori’s Chrisitan and Ronan. But my God, Kirill was on a different level.

Sasha is disguised as a man to get close to those who had a hand in killing her family. I’m not going to tell you who killed the family because when you read the book, you don’t have to be a genius to figure it out. Sasha is the perfect puppet for her uncle and grandmother; she has been following their plan to a T.

The first meeting between them two is at the camp where Kirill is a Commander of Special Operations in the Russian army, in an attempt to get away from his father. Krill has a rather strained relationship with his family as we see in most books. I’m not going to get into it because it is indeed a messy, messy story. Although suspecting that Sasha isn’t Aleksander (male) and indeed a female, Kirill takes him at the time under his wing when Sasha demands to be trained.

After the death of Kirill’s father, Krill leaves the army (more like forced to leave) and return to the Bratva as the heir. Sasha follows in the quest to find out more about the reason behind her family’s death. Kirill finds out Sasha is indeed a woman however I’m not telling you when he finds out.

Sasha is out of revenge and Krill is out to rule the world. No one said anything about love, right?

Long story short, after Kirill becomes the Pakhan of the Bratva and after the real truth behind Sasha’s family death is revealed, still complications don’t end.

The first instalment was setting the foundation, the second was focused on building the relationship between the two-love birds alongside Sash’s new position as a guard for Krill and the third was the big finale.

Spoiler, I just have to tell you. She fakes her death because of miscommunication. What else. IT was heart breaking nonetheless.

The story was developed with the right amount of love, suspense and HEA’s. It was timed perfectly, paced beautifully and the ending was done with so much suspense. There were certain aspects that I found just a tad bit OTT but Rina Kent has a thing for that as I’ve noticed in other series of hers. I haven’t seen such good character development in a long time.

Honestly it was so endearing when Sasha was acting like a man because she had to hide the hots she had for Krill. The bonding moments between the two was so sweet and on that note lets talk about my most loved moments.

When Krill first found out about Sasha’s identity and declared his fake wife to the village they hid in (this scene lives in my head rent free), the marriage between the two and Krill finding out that his beloved wife was alive.

Before we go any further, absolutely hated the cover with Krill on it because don’t mess with how my mind conjures him. That isn’t it. Much prefer the ones without a mans picture on it.

I’m currently re-reading it alongside Wild Eyes, living my mediocre life but living in the most perfect world through words.

However, now I’m deliberating if I should even do a post on the RES series and if I do should I do it as a bulk or alone? They were all great reads however are they worth posts alone? I want to finish the new generations reads before making a decision.

Anyways, enough of that. If I could recommend any Rina Kent reads it would be The Deception Trilogy and God of War. 5/5 reads. Perfection from start to finish. This is one of those stories that should be read before any of you existing TBR shelf books.

Honestly, pick up these paper pages. Don’t neglect them.

Mwah.

Vivian.

Don’t forget to keep reading, because as long as you do, it’s making a struggling authors day that much better. Reach for the starts of success.
