Love
Rina Kent but this was not for me. I read it out of curiosity and I’m
still unsure on whether or not I regret it.
Before
I start stressing over everything, let me briefly introduce you to this world
of Rina Kent. I read this after finishing The Monster trilogy because I
was blown away by it. Little did I know that it was written after The
Deception trilogy. Clearly. I could tell just from the first line.
We
have Adrian Volkov who was been all over my BookTok and Instagram feed.
Snippets here and there about him and Lia, so imagine how I had to double check
I was reading the write book when the first page started with the perspective
of Winter. Who the hell is Winter? I’ll tell you.
Adrian
Volkov is part of the Bratva and Lia is a ballerina. She witnessed something
that was caused by Adrian and in turn he had to either get her to shup up or
kill her. I’m sure you can predict where this is going. Mentally Lia wasn’t great,
especially after an injury that took away her one and only purpose in life;
ballet. Well, Adrian didn’t even think about her mental health. He got her pregnant
with their son Jermey but as he always said “mommy turned into a ghost”. As
in a shell of her former self.
A lot
of things lead to another and she finally thought jumping off a cliff was the
only solution, since it got way too much. She did have some sort of bond with
Rai however. Now how did he find out she went to do that? A dental tracker.
Seriously.
Lia convinced
Adrian to let her go out with the younger guard and Jemery. When she went to
the bathroom, she met her doppelganger Winter who was homeless. Winter had a still
born child and certain things resonated with Lia. Lia and Winter switched
places, telling her everything in order to fool everyone. Lia was the actual
fool because it took Adrian 0.1 second to figure out it wasn’t his wife but an intruder.
After sedating her, they went on the hunt to find the real Mrs Volkov.
Adrian
has two guards. Don’t ask me for their names. You aren’t getting them because I
can’t remember them. I do remember that one was loyal to a fault and the other
couldn’t keep his opinions to himself. After Lia’s attempted suicide, she loses
her memory and thinks that she is now Winter since she was the last person, she
encountered before the injury. The bits Winter didn’t give her, she filled in herself,
like the fact that she was a ballerina. The story started on Winter, with Lia
getting her memory back and then we get to the actual present.
After being
told to lay off Lia for a bit and let her live as Winter, the younger guard was
disguised as Richard and became Lia’s best friend at the homeless shelter. Well, everything hit the fan when Adrian
killed the manager of that shelter who was also some kind of mayor or had ties
to them that could have benefited the Bratva. I think. I don’t know. I cannot remember.
This has never happened to me before, am I okay? Oh goodness me. Why did I
write a review for this?
I don’t
even know how but they fell in love, then they go to Russia to show Jeremy
his roots, somehow got away with betraying the Bratva and also caught Lorenzo (Italian)
who was Lia’s something and used her to get closer to the Bratva and expose
them? I don’t remember at this point. Just try to stay with me here.
Lia
used to see someone on the far side balcony all the time throughout the day and
night and when she got her memory back knowing who it was, off she went to
confront her. Winter came out of the coma a long time ago because she sedated
herself. As in slipped, hit her head and then went into a coma. The reason she kept
the act up was because if you haven’t already guessed, Adrian Volkov is a bad
man. Lia and Winter bond, she helps Winter get back out into the world even
though she’s constricted now due to the mafia life but there is something the younger
guard has for Winter. I don’t know what though.
Why am
I writing a review about a book I hardly remember? To show my variety and that
I’m honest in my work. Not everything I read leaves a dent in my mind or makes
it to my point system in my review notebook. It’s nature. Some books I read 1
chapter and I’m out others I read the whole book (like this one) and still can’t
figure out why I did it.
Truth
be told, I can’t even remember that much about the story so excuse me if some
things aren’t too accurate.
The
reason for this acute memory loss is because it was just way too descriptive.
Like chapters of all this writing but it had nothing to do with the story which
is a shame considering how intriguing the storyline is. I guess a trilogy was
needed but it wasn’t done right. It wasn’t done like The Monster Trilogy. However,
I did appreciate the elevation in writing. The progress in the sense of literature
was there.
I can’t
decide if I liked it or not mainly because the good was equal to the bad. So, the
rating is me being neutral. It’s not a book I think back to and in all honesty,
I can remember bits but not enough to even tell you if you should buy it or not.
It’s so frustrating.
A few
moments that I liked was the trip to Russia, when Lia declared her love to Adrian
and the banter between Adrian and Kirill. A part of me wants to re-read just to
make sure I’m not the one with memory loss like Lia but it seems so draining.
I don’t
think I’ll be re-reading and I’m dramatic so take what I said with a pinch of
salt. We are sticking to a 3. Maybe IF I ever do revisit Lia and Adrian it could
go up to a 4 or down to a 2.
I’ve
got a headache. I’d love to discuss this with fellow book readers.
They
aren’t bad paper pages per say just a bit lacking.
I’m
still slowly making my way through God of Wrath who stars Jeremy Volkov
and Cecily. We will report back with that soon.
In the
meantime, pick up Promise Me Not by Meagan Brandy because those
are some valuable Paper Pages.
A very
stressed mwah.
Vivian,
Don’t forget to
keep reading, because as long as you do, it’s making a struggling authors day
that much better. Reach for the starts of success.
