They just get better every time. I’m so sorry Icebreaker. I promised I would never betray you but as soon as I was introduced to Henry, I just knew that wasn’t the case. Fun while it lasted though. Just like Stassie's relationship with Ryan. Short and sweet.
I was one of the hundreds of people who was literally protesting for
Henry’s book to drop. I didn’t know the story, hadn’t met his love interest in
previous books or knew anymore than the snippets we got but it was enough to
pique my interest. Wildfire was a good diversion however nothing can
divert you away from Henry MF Turner.
In short, I have never pre-ordered a book so quickly in my life.
Let’s get into it.
We have Henry Turner, who we always knew was different than Nate
Hawkins. Then we have Halle. Sweet, loving, caring, book obsessed and
over-worked Halle. She has the charms of a Disney princess even if she does dress like Miss Honey from Matilda. Who doesn't want to be like Miss Honey? I’m Halle. Halle is me. I aspire to be her.
I haven't read a student tutor trope before. It's never appealed to me however like I said Henry was in it. If the trope was literally just him obsessing over cats and dogs with no interest, I still would have read it.
In Icebreaker, we see Nate nominate Henry to become the new caption of the hockey team. We see how much Henry struggled with his position alongside Professor Thorntons class. Fate bought Henry to Halle’s work place – more like Rory did - and magic was made. We slowly start to see how the work transition between the two blossoms into something else.
I both loved and appreciate the anxiety and ADHD rep. It’s so heart
warming to see such conditions explored in books. Hannah Grace has always been
one to talk about disorders, mental health and triggers alongside being a big advocate from
the LQBTQ community. Love it.
Halle meets Henry just as she breaks up with her best friend turned
boyfriend turned ex-boyfriend. She’s a virgin and is sure that is the reason
why. After feeling completely fine since the breakup, Halle does what she does
best; work. Working at the book shop, managing a book club all whilst writing a
short story for a competition is the norm for her, until she meets Henry. I
love Henry.
Halle is the over worked eldest daughter of the family. She does everything for everyone and gets little to return. Vivian, doesn't that sound like you? Yes. Yes it does but those days are over now. I had to be my own Henry.
Henry can’t think in loud places, he doesn’t love socializing where
there’s a crowd but he does it to keep up with being the captain. All the
little things that only Halle notices, is what makes him like a comfort blanket
to Henry, kind of like Russ aka Muffin. It’s always lovely when old characters
make an appearance so Anastasia and Nate were the cherry on top. Honestly it's hard to find good comapny let alone good friends so I may have cried a tiny bit when Nate was helping Henry with his worries. I particularly
loved it when Henry admitted that he wanted to leave his position.
Protecting Halle was one thing but admitting someone that he tried to fulfil
so hard – and accomplished – was refreshing. I want to be Henry.
The honesty and banter between Henry, Rory and Stassie was unmatched. It kept me wanting more. He's honest to a fault and doesn't regret it one single bit.
As always, Hannah never does the whole dramatic break up act, which I’m
so thankful for. It’s still hard to read because I always act as if I’m the
main character, but not too bad.
One tell-tale sign that indicates a book really is a 5-star read, is when
I can’t stop thinking about it. It’s been over a month, and there has not been a moment
where Halle and Henry have not crossed my mind.
I love that this talks about ADHD and similar issues. Hannah Grace is an
advocate for everything hence why I love her so much. I read a lot from
Hachette, Simon & Schuster and HarperFiction. It’s been a while since I
picked one up from S&S because I was waiting for this release.
Whenever you resonate with a character, it just makes it that much more
special. Halle not being too social and going from having some friends to a
lot, just hit me right in that floppy heart of mine.
Great read. Forget the rest of your TBR, just get this.
September you were good.
Ah. I do love some paper pages.
Until next time.
Mwah.
Vivian.
Don’t forget to
keep reading, because as long as you do, it’s making a struggling authors day
that much better. Reach for the starts of success.
