So, I may or may not have set the
time for this post to go live like 3 weeks after reading it but hey, that’s
technology for you. Let’s just skip past the human error made my myself and get
into the review.
After reading Elsie Silver’s Reckless
which involved a surprise pregnancy from a one-night stand, I went down a
rabbit whole of reading books with similar tropes. Did I read a lot? Yes, were
they all review worthy? Definietly not. Did I find only one that I liked? Of
course, and it was none other than J.M. Darhower’s Ghosted.
Despite Ghosted not having
the entirely same kind of trope as Reckless, I loved it nonetheless.
Starring Johnny Cunning and single
mother Kennedy Garfield with little Madison. A second chance romance
stand-alone that showcased how dreams turned into nightmares.
Johnny is a troubled young actor and Hollywood’s
newest heartthrob who is known as Breezo the superhero. Scandals, addictions
and a piece of his heart that got left behind all catch up with the life he
always wanted. Kennedy is a single mother who’s blessing is five-year-old
Madison, whilst the curse is assistant manager at a grocery store. She exists
for one reason only and that reason comes in the form of Maddie. Every time she
goes to work, she’s surrounded by the tabloids who showcase what she once had.
Now living two different lives apart, once upon a time Kennedy was where it all
started for Johnny. From bonding over comic books to falling in love, years
later the common thing that kept them together is what brings Johnny back.
Maddie has no idea her father is the
Breezo she thinks about day and night but with Johnny determined to make amends
with both Kennedy and her at the forefront, he’s ready to be the man Kennedy
once had and give the world to the little girl he never met.
Someone get the damn Kleenex!
Let’s cut to the chase. I love it. Every single part of it owned me. There wasn’t
a moment where, as a reader, my attention dipped. If anything, I was saying
‘just 5 more minutes’ which turned into reading it in one sitting.
My favourite moment was when
Maddie and Johnny and their first outing together alone. The heart-rate moment
which had the organ beating outside of my chest was when Maddie was waiting for
her father to come watch her play. Did anyone re-read the part where they were
rehearsing lines together? It was just way to cute.
Johnny and Kennedy did have some
back and forth which got a bit old however it wasn’t to the point where I
had to put the book down. Hello, I’m a literary agent in the making, it’s
practically my job to notice things. The love was there, the spice was there,
the climax in whatever way you will take it, was there.
5/5, no two ways about it. Will I
re-read it again? Yes.
Definitely pick up this read and
let me know your thoughts!
Now it’s time to go pick up my
neglected paper pages.
Mwah.
Vivian.
Don’t forget to
keep reading, because as long as you do, it’s making a struggling authors day
that much better. Reach for the starts of success.
