What a
let-down. Call me harsh but for a second there I forgot this was the same
writer of The Dreamland Billionaire series.
I’m
currently going through a phase of single dad x nanny trope but this was not
what I had in mind. Like I get that The Final Offer wasn’t this trope
but it still involved a similar element and that stole my whole heart so
imagine my surprised when I read this.
The only
thing I could think whilst reading was thank God, I didn’t pay for the kindle
version as well….
. If you’ve
read installment #1 of this series then you would have already met Julian
Lopez. Well, Rafael Lopez and Julian are cousins with a very close bond because
he was adopted by Julian’s parents after becoming an orphan. Rafa was raised by
the worst examples of parents to exist and then was betrayed and used for money
by his ex-wife Hilary who still won’t get off his back. The relationships are
strained between not only Rafa and the Hilary but also between Nico and his
mother. Let’s just say, it’s all one sided. Nico has an eye condition which
just gets worse with age, so much so that by the time he’s 20, he will practically
be completely blind. In comes Ellie Sinclair – the songwriter but more importantly
the nanny of Nico’s dreams. Ellie has been through abuse of her own whether
that was done by Ava (best friend since tweens) who made allegations on her,
stole her music, refuse to give her credit and then proceeded to release
a song so close to Ellie’s heart or whether it was the guilt of her mother
staying in an abusive relationship for Ellie. Yeah, so there’s a lot of baggage.
Ellie had a
massive crush on Rafa but on paper these two were not compatible. He even fried
her (spoiler) for a small mistake but then obviously re-hired her or else a)
Nico would have burned down Lake Wister and b) because this love story would
have finished there. A trip for Nico’s birthday at Hawaii later, things start
bubbling. Relax – it wasn’t that great. I may or may not have merely skimmed
the spicy scenes. Not feeling this story guys. It just frustrated me.
First and
foremost, there was no need for this to be as long as it was unless it
was written by Lucy Score. It got so repetitive and descriptive that I just
found myself tapering off and skipping words. I never skip words – ever.
There was no need for so many fillers in the stories nor was there need for separate
chapters containing just fillers. I just could not get into it at all mainly
because it didn’t flow nicely. I’m starting to doubt whether people who read
these have a true passion for books or just want to say they worked with a bestselling
author.
I found the
story line lack-luster and the meetings between vital characters like Hilary
(Rafa’s ex-wife) and the court case proceeding between Ellie and Ava very anti-climactic.
Honestly, this series isn’t doing it for me. Although I thoroughly enjoyed Love
Redesigned it wasn’t anything as near as good as The Final Offer. However,
I gravitated towards Lorenzo so much so maybe that’s the time to redeem this
series
Wow. I woke
up and chose violence today.
It’s not
easy can I just say because there are so many bookish Instagram accounts that
are posting all over their stories how much they adore Love Unwritten so
I’m questing my ability in finding a storyline impressive. Self-doubt is a real
you know what sometimes but regardless of the bac lash I’m sticking true to
what I believe and that’s believing that if I struggle to come back to a book
then it’s probably because it’s not great.
My blog is
never to deter someone because hello there are billions of opinions in the
world. It’s just to share, advise and understand.
There were
elements I liked of this however. First of all – Nico. Is he a Waylay or a Cami
Castillo? No. Definitely not. But he’s Nico nonetheless and a child of that age
going through the condition he had is heart-breaking. He was a brave 9-year-old
who enjoyed life without letting his condition cause immense fear in him but he
was still just a kid who didn’t know the future. More than anything the
nightmare he had which he explained to his father alongside feeling like he was
the fault for Rafa being the way he used to be, was the most heart-breaking. Whether
any of us admit or not, from a young age we all want to make our parents happy.
The relationship a child has with their nanny is always so touching so imagine
my misty eyes when he calls her mom later on in their relationship.
I felt like
Ellie when she was afraid to get onto that damn plane because I am scared of
flying. Not Ellie level but still hate it nonetheless. Never feared it as a
child however once I understood the dying part of it, hated it. Sitting in something
that I cannot control with people whom I don’t know? No thank you. I’ll drive
to New York. I understand the feeling of not getting credit when you deserve it
so well-done Ellie for going to court and not settling for the money. Cole you
are a great guy. I
I’ll be
honest, the most exciting thing that happened was a mere mention of Alana
Castillo who baked Nico’s birthday cake. Rafael was not doing it for me – not even
going to go there.
Was this a 5-star
read? Nope. More like 3 stars. I knocked off the .5 because the constant use of
‘yup’ was grinding my gear. Would I recommend it? To the right people yes. Will
I personally read it again? Defiantly not. I’m disappointed and under whelmed.
Maybe in the future I could give it a re-read just to see if I was being a bit harsh
but when the PR team sets expectations to high then you’re bound to get some
bad feed-back. I’ll tell you who sets the perfect expectations – Ana Huang and
Tessa Bailey. Geniuses.
A quick reading
update – TikTok is messed up because it keeps recommending me dark romances
that are terrible like My Dark Romeo. What on God’s green earth?
Also Snaring Emberly. Why are the first 5 chapter of them to just
getting it on. It’s so very jarring.
I just have
no words. Honestly, I think it’ll just re-read something. 2024 started off with
some great releases but boy are they tapering off. Tessa Bailey – I’m counting
on you.
Anyways, I’m
off to be applying for my dreams who Hachette currently has the keys to. I’ll
keep you updated on my job hunting as long as you keep me updated on your paper
pages.
Until next
time.
Mwah.
Vivian.
Don’t forget to keep reading, because as long as you
do, it’s making a struggling authors day that much better. Reach for the starts
of success.
