Yeah, so not your typical Elsie Silver book
review but it has to be done.
I was so hyped for a new start to a new series after falling
in love with the Chesnut Springs series but unfortunately for me Wild
Love just didn’t hit the spot. I so wish it did but it just really didn’t.
First of all, the number of times I read the damn word
‘scoff’ or ‘scoffed’ was borderline annoying. I didn’t know the repetition of
one word could cause me so much anxiety until I read Wild Love. I’ll go
into that later for now let’s talk about Ford Grant and Rosalie Belmont.
The name Grant ring a bell? If you thought it was
Willa’s (from Heartless) brother, then you would be correct. I remember reading
about Ford and wanting to know more about him. It was a character I was just so
drawn to so knowing there was a whole book on him just made my testing 2024
better. Ford Grant really spoke to me but Rosalie just did not. I was unable to
get into their story because of the lack of something. Even throughout, I felt as
if Cora was inspired by Waylay from the Knockamount series by Lucy
Score. Like so inspired that I felt like she was the first draft version of Waylay.
I don’t know. I could just be biased because I love Knox, Naomi and Waylay that
much but it felt a little to suspicious.
With Rosie something didn’t click. Rosie and Ford made
sense, the plot was so bang on, the chemistry from years ago was alive, the
paint scene had me curling my toes but something wasn’t there and I can’t
figure out exactly what. Rosie is a strong, independent, bad-ass lady boss
which is what we like to see but sometimes the story read like she was as
bratty as she was all those years ago. Trying too hard I guess you could say.
Here I go again with my analogy; Rosie was a watered-down version of Winter from
Reckless. Come to think of it, at least Ford and Theo had some distinction
between them. Theo Silva could never be a Ford Grant and vice versa.
Cora making Ford into a father was the plot intervention
I never saw coming. Did it say something about that on the blurb? If there was
some sort of secret message it really went over my big head. Adored the
nickname alongside relationship the trio had with each other i.e. (little
storm cloud and big storm cloud). How Cora was kind of intentionally being
match maker whilst still dealing with a lot of new things herself in a new way
was commendable. In the current stage of my life, I could use some of Storm
Cora. The girl made sure her mother got help after the death of her father,
found her then donor father (Ford), took God knows what route to get there, all
but moved in with Ford then also started a new life in a new city with a new
school and friends. Yeah. Not easy. It was cute to see Ford get nervous wanting
to make sure he was the best dad ever. Almost as heart-wrenching it was to see Grant
Senior rock up with the grandfather t-shirt. It was evident that the musical
pull was pre-existing between both father and daughter. But more than the bonus
scene, the pink scrunchie that Rosie left on Cora’s night stand after their
girl talk hit me in the feels. Do you know what? Cora was a little storm cloud
with a pop of pink on her head afterwards. My ovaries tickled me…..again.
Actually, it’s been doing that a lot lately.
PSA: I admired Cora so much just at times I got
protective of Waylay. In all fairness, Cora and Waylay would be BFF’s all day, every
day. I would also like to take this moment to say fell in love with Camila
Castillo (Final Offer – Lauren Asher) ‘hang-ovary’ please. I
died.
Cute moments between the main stars of the show. One
the email banter. Two when Ford gave a section of the dock to Rosie. Three would
be when thanks to West, Rosie decided to take the plunge and stand up against
Stan. It was wildly spoken about by Elsie Silver throughout a couple of books
so refreshing to see her make sure it’s dealt with promptly towards the
endings. I felt for Rosie when she literally came bundled up with nothing back
at Rose Hill because big brother Weston always has her back. It’s not easy
re-starting your life you could say in your late twenties. Take that from someone
who is in her early twenties and is still trying to secure a job whilst simultaneously
stepping away from a toxic household or more so relatives. Not easy but have to
be hopeful otherwise it’s just a downward spiral.
This gets a measly 3 stars from me but I’m sure the next
editions won’t disappoint.
With everything said and done, I am extremely excited
for Wild Eyes. Minus his children, it’s definitely giving It Happened
One Summer by Tessa Bailey vibes despite West and Brendan being
polar opposites. I’m sure they would never be friends should they meet
in the future. If the sneak peek at the end of Wild Love is anything to
go by then this is going to be a hit. I can already see the dynamic from the Chesnut
Springs series peeking through. The more the series will go on, the better
it will be. I already know it.
I’m digging the single dad reads lately and to be fair
there are a lot of new releases with this trope like Wild Eyes, Love Unwritten
(Lauren Asher) and The Au Pair Affair (Tessa Bailey). Still finding something
that can compete with my top two girls (Waylay and Cami)
I’m not going too dejected by all that’s been read so
far. By all means, Wild Love did not leave a sour taste in my mouth it
just was mediocre. Won’t be a re-read for me but will be for some others. Let’s
see what else Rose Hill has to offer.
I can’t believe I’m actually going to say this but I
actually preferred reading a Core Reilly book on the side. So, I read the
standalone called Sweet Temptation which was an easy read for a mafia
book. The bloody sheets tradition still gives me ick, hives – you name it all.
Then I started to go into the children’s love stories between the major mafia
brands would you call it? First of was Great and Amo (lowkey forgot who Amo was
but Reilly made a whole chart so it helped rejog my memory) this was titled By
Fate I Conquer. Sometimes the story line dropped a little but 5/5 for me.
Enjoyed it. I’m also reading By Frenzy I Ruin who stars a Remo 2.0 aka
Nevio Falcone and sweet little Aroura. I’m about 20% into it so far and it
looks promising. Alongside this the book I’m co-reading (if there is a such
things) 2 others. At number 1 we have Mile High by Liz Tomforde and Luciano by
Eva Winners. Both so different in the romance category but these 3 will hold me
up until the most anticipated read King of Sloth by Ana Huang drops on April 30th.
Only if my career life was as busy as my reading life.
If you only knew what I was currently living through.
I have to persevere.
Until next time my little book worms. Paper pages
awaits us all.
Mwah.
Vivian.
Don’t forget to keep reading, because as long as you
do, it’s making a struggling authors day that much better. Reach for the starts
of success.
