Things We Left Behind - Lucy Score

(The MMC was dubbed 'Suit Daddy' you tell me what rating I gave it?)

Lucian Rollins dubbed ‘Suit Daddy’ - thanks to Lina - is literally a walking, talking wet dream.

What a perfect end to the series. Let’s get into the steamy history of Mr. Lucian Rollins and Miss Sloane Walton.

Break down of the plot. Sloane and Lucian both grew up next door to each other but where Sloane came form the daughter of a lawyer, Lucian come from an abusive household. Lucian’s dad was abusive to both mother and son which Sloane knew about because he confided in her. Lucian was the Walton’s unofficial son and also the protégé of said lawyer. It was heart-warming to see.

After the passing of her father, Sloane is now on a quest to help release the mother of her father’s protégé which means more time spent between Suit Daddy and the perky librarian. Throughout this, we discover that Lucian helped the Walton’s in more ways than Sloane could ever anticipate. He helped them spend one last Christmas together and his business isn’t for killing the world like we first suspected. Slowly but surely, Sloane started to piece together why he was always so involved with her family through one way or another. With the long-term friendship between Lucian and the Morgan brothers paired with Sloane's new found family with Lina and Naomi, everyone has an opinion on the pair should be doing. Maybe even some bets were made.

The multiple – but not overly done – flashbacks let us discover what happened all those years ago and why Lucian held such a strong grudge against the Pixi, spitfire librarian. It’s so easy to empathize with teenage Lucian whilst also understanding why Sloane did what she did. It’s impossible to pick a side. A bit like what came first – the chicken or the egg? Like who cares but I still want to know.

Aside from Sloane wanting to follow in her father’s foot-steps, she also wants to settle down and have kids. Good thing she’s got friends because they may or may not have helped her set up a dating app. Ooooh. How Suit Daddy was breathing fire. This led to the spice. A lot of bad dates, bad history and accidently ending up in a hotel - that Lucian owns - to flirt with men lead to her to Lucian’s bed. Both literally and metaphorically.

Slowly, this agreement just morphs into a full pledge relationship. When the library was set on fire by a certain criminal, everything came into perceptive for Mr. Rollins. Oh, his therapist I forgot about him! Perfection. Speaking of criminals, Anthony Duncan is Lucian’s mother’s boyfriend? What the actual fucking fuck? I can’t say I didn’t expect it but when I did, I was like – didn't you learn from your first husband? What was better than that was when Sloane stood-up for Lucian after his mother slapped him – she owned everything in that scene including Lucian's heart. Finding Anthony Hugo, taking him down after he tried to hurt that family bunch was tying up all loose ends. Score really took her time developing the story rather than just rushing through it all. Ana Huang is also a mastermind in this. Does anyone remember Magda? Yeah. Exactly.

Moving towards the end of the book, it was heart-warming to see the second Morgan get married, with Lucian setting a date for his own. The proposal scene had me both crying and laughing. Just read the damn epilogue. Nothing makes me cry but that did. The ‘that’ I’m referring to is Lucy Score’s way of pulling at my heart strings.

The 3rd act break-up was necessary in a plot like this – the history they had was an inevitable start to the demise. Nolan become Lucian’s best friend – that friendship was gold. It reminded me of the bromance between Alex and Josh from the Twisted Series. Has anyone seen the fan-art of Lucian Rollins? Shut. The. Front. Door. Wow. The most spot on drawing I’ve ever seen. Check out @fellowbookbabe on Instagram then get back to me. Perfection.

There was a lot in this book. A lot to read, fan over and remember.

Now that this series is over, some general comments. Love that all of them are in their late 30’s to early 40’s. Who said love has to be found when you’re young? I think people’s prime is after 20. 20 is like the adult version of puberty. These lot sure as hell didn’t find it young but found a lasting love, living happily ever after. Even Liza J did. Secondly, the epilogues and bonus scenes were not coy which I appreciated. Like we all know Nash-Lina were going to make it through their obstacles whilst Lucian-Sloane were going to get over their pre-existing feud. Let’s not act like they’re didn’t have a book about them ending in marriage. Thank you very much. Thirdly, it wasn’t you’re usual jazz. For example, Naomi and Knox had a hard time conceiving so they adopted. Completely normal – if not spoken enough about – despite it being heart-breaking for women who are nearing their 40’s. Realistic. I liked it.

Waylay stole my heart. Honestly, that kid was the best written character. I just have on question – what ever happened to Tina all those years later? I was glad to see Duke Morgan sober up but I wondered if she ever left her ways or if Waylay went back to meet her?

Now I’m in a reading rut. I’m re-reading books but can’t find anything amazing. This happened to me every time I read a series I love.

Still job hunting. Wish me luck or just read some great paper pages on my behalf because your girl is struggling.

Until next time.

Mwah.

Vivian.

Don’t forget to keep reading, because as long as you do, it’s making a struggling authors day that much better. Reach for the starts of success.
