13-year age gap. Consider me bought.
Beau Eaton meets Bailey Jansen. So Beau wasn’t the
happy go lucky guy he’d been faking after all. Interesting. I wish I was as
good actor as Beau.
Bailey Jansen is known for her notorious family of
jailbait dad and illegal brothers. All one has to say is Jansen and the
whole of Chesnut springs is either giving side way glances or cutting in the
que whilst someone is trying to get coffee. Bailey was seen throughout the
series, always portrayed as this shy, timid girl which she was…..until she
wasn’t. Beau wasn’t aware that Miss Jansen was using their river in the back to
cool down since the trailer – dubbed boiler – is literally as hot as the sun.
Beau Eaton isn’t anything like he seems. Well, kind
of, sort of, maybe. If you’ve read Powerless, then you would know that
Beau went missing on his last deployment. We get a deeper look into the
situation throughout Hopeless but it seems like Beau has always had
PTSD. It just got worse with the recent situation he was in. Burnt feet, skin
grafting – the whole lot.
When Beau decided to indulge in some day drinking at
the local bar, he ends up having Chamomile tea after almost starting an
argument with Gary which was the pivotal moment in how B & B came to be.
Straight off the bat, Bailey was a firecracker. Gary
should have been restrained. I mean that guy not only had alcohol issues but
erm other ones that I rather not say. However, later on he became somewhat of a
father figure – albeit a little weird – for her which was more than she could
ask her. I didn’t even know this was a fake marriage/dating trope. All I knew
was Bailey was somewhat of a virgin. I found it very sweet how Beau wanted to
help Bailey to get a job even if it meant faking that her last name was Eaton
and not Jansen. Who knew that having the wrong name could lead to so many
missed opportunities.
Both MC’s had similar issues that balanced out each
other’s fears. A lot of the time, Bailey was the one humbling Beau. A couple of
things really tore my heart into tatters. Like when Beau asked why Bailey
couldn’t save up money to go to the city with one of the reasons being she pays
an astronomical amount of rent to help with the re-mortgage of the house. Or
when Bailey told Beau he has the privilege of saying he doesn’t want to work at
the ranch just because it was boring because not everyone has the choice. But
the most heart-breaking? Give me a moment.
What kind of stupid, selfish, self-obsessed brothers
come banging on their baby sister’s trailer to pawn off a huge diamond
engagement ring. I cried. Literally fat tears when her brothers trashed her
trailer and tore peaches to shreds. My lips quired like it was my trailer.
As time went on, Beau started to understand how hard
it was for Bailey to get away from stereotypes of the small town. Mindsets
were too narrow, actions spoke louder than words and for a 22-year-old Bailey,
it was all too much. A trip out to the carnival meant more bitchy comments from
girls towards Bailey, leaving a fuming Beau with damaged egos. Even though my
fiction induced heart wanted them to be at the ranch forever, it was refreshing
to see the unexpected.
2.11. I’m not going to tell you the significance of it
but for the ones that know, I’m dead!
I gave Bailey Eaton a big, fat pat on the back when
she finally, stood up to the people of Chesnut Springs, her brothers and
father. It was like sipping lemonade on a hot summer’s day. Take that twiddle
dee and twiddle dumb.
I could not put this down. I just couldn’t. From the
wit, spice, humor and vulnerability to just the realness of life – I loved it.
I read it as fast as I did Reckless. Even though not one can beat Theo,
I have to admit Beau took as much space in my mind as Mr. Silva. So, no
complaints there.
Reckless & Hopeless are both joint at 1st place. Perfect.
In my humble opinion, Ana Huang does the best series
round up. If you’ve read the Twisted Series, you know what I mean. No
one can finish it off in the most sentimental way ever so comparing the Chesnut
Spring series to that isn’t fair. What I’m trying to say is, it kinda hit
the spot but didn’t at the same time.
I tried to get into the Gold Rush Ranch series
to get to know more about Violet, I just cannot get into it which isn’t
anything new when it comes to my reading preferences. I am on the edge of my
seat for Wild Love. I’ve read the blurb, I’ve seen the cover, I am salivating.
Well, that’s another series finished within a very
short period of time. It’s always sad finishing a series you really like. Felt
the same way about anything Ana Huang or Lauren Asher.
Sigh.
Who has any new reads that they can’t wait to read
soon? I did do a post on it but it deffo needs a face lift. I’m going to go do
that.
Until then, if you’re going to consider reading any
paper pages, then do check out this series. Get’s a fat 4.5/5 stars overall.
Mwah.
Vivan.
Don’t forget to keep reading, because as long as you
do, it’s making a struggling authors day that much better. Reach for the starts
of success.
