Flawless - Elsie Silver

(4/5 Stars - left some crumbs. Eeek. I'm sorry)

Remember how I said I starting reading this series in the wrong order? Well, Flawless (#1) is that book and I am whizzing through the Chesnut Spring series like a bottle of fine wine…. or Lucozade in my case. No drinking party here.

Was I thoroughly amused by the read? Duh. Obviously, I read it in like 3 days. Did it pique my interest where and when it should have? Absolutely. Do Summer & Rhett beat Theo & Winter? Hell no. But that’s fine. They weren’t supposed to. Let’s talk about it!

One factor I’ve noticed in the two books by Elise Silver that I have read is this; the men aren’t overly grouchy nor are they so sweet I’ll have to get a cavity. Just somewhere in the middle. It’s so good for the soul. I’ve been sucked in by the billionaire era and the Ryle (scoffing so hard) era but this was like drinking lemonade on a hot summer’s day. I want a ranch! *stomps foot like imature child that I am*

Summer Hamilton meets Rhett. First of all, as someone struggling for a job, it was like a nice hug seeing that Summer was just getting her life together at the ripe age of 25. I’m only 1 year behind but still feeling good. Rhett. Why are all these damn cowboys after some buckle bunnies? The irony of it all. Whereas Summer was trying to hold the reins to her old professional fate, it seems like Rhett didn’t have much help either. No body rooted for him, his career, his dreams or what bull riding meant to him. It was more than a competition or a championship. It was like he said, 8 seconds of being the ruler of his own destiny.

The spice. The cow-boy hat rule means what? When Summer wore Emmet’s cow-boy had she had to do what? Yeah. Not under Rhett’s watch. I’ve never blushed so hard in my paper pages, ever loving, sweet girl era life. Alongside Catalina and Vivian Lau, I was D-E-A-D.

I do truly believe that had I read this in order, it would have just gotten better and better. The writing from Flawless compared to Reckless was such progress to document. It reminded me off the Twisted Series by Ana Huang. Twisted Love came strong but when it got to the last two book, the writing flew to a marker on the meter so high that it was almost comical. Twisted Lies was like it was written by another person. I got the same feeling with this.

I feel a bit like Summer. If anyone has bothered to read the ‘About’ tag on my page, I graduated from Law School to but here I am in the publishing world trying to make it……and failing hopelessly. It’s not easy book lovers. It’s competitive, hard and employers don’t even think about the struggling candidates on the other end. So, when she got the support from her father Kip, I longed for that in my own family. Being jobless with a passion so different from every other sibling and having no help is like the tip of the iceberg. One day the wind will change its direction – it always does which means one day, Vivian will prevail.

The heart at issue was how Rhett just couldn’t seem to find satisfaction even after getting to the top. Twice. It wasn’t until big brother Cade Eaton came in and put little brother in place. With a shoulder injury, and fresh broken ribs that even a tour doctor diagnosed as ‘unfit for riding’, Rhett still thought it would be a grand idea to do the find championship in Vegas to get his 3rd buckle. That was until he saw Summer in the crowd and decided where he rather have his last moments.

Whilst Rhett got put into place by Cade Eaton, Summer got that same help from Kip. When Rhett broke Summer’s trust in an attempt to shield her from a crazy ex paired with the sister he was married to, Rhett let his protectiveness leak out a secret that should never have come from his lips. It was one of those ‘Why the hell did I just say that?’ but ‘I’m glad I did it for them’ kind of moment. Alas, they burned that bridge like every couple does in every book but it was a hard being as strong as Summer. I would’ve folded in 8 second flat.

Sigh. Only if. Would I say it’s my most favorite read compared to Reckless? no I don’t. Do I still think that now 1 whole book and ½ of another in comparison? Still probably no but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t an important book. If reading series has taught me anything it’s thing; the first book will always be the least exciting only because it’s setting the foundation for what’s to come. Don’t get me wrong, still such a - what’s the word I should use for this? Hmmm. Touching. It was such a touching read beautifying this series no less.

It's alarming how quickly I’m getting through this series. I’ve read Heartless. Boy, do I have thoughts on Cade & Willa. I read it in two days. I’m already half way through Powerless. Sloane & Jasper are giving vibes I don’t know which vibes but nevertheless – they’re vibes. Once I’m done with that, I’ll be re-reading Reckless for the 3rd time. All of it is just so alluring.

Side note! I don’t know about yourselves but I dislike real people on covers. Always have, always will with a few exceptions like Danielle Lori covers or H.D. Carlton. They always ruin the people I picture with the words in my mind, it ruins how I dissect them as characters and just overall ruins the experience. I’ve seen all the characters on the books before they turned into actual fiction. My thoughts? Let’s say this. The worst one is for a certain Cade paired with a certain Red. Like from what angle? Where is LUKE?! HE was the whole reason they got together alongside Summer.

One of my new year’s resolutions is to write the review straight after finishing the romance books but I’m a little bit behind because it was my sister’s wedding, however, I still read a lot during the small breaks I got. Now Heartless has essentially wrote itself with a bit more about me inside it, let’s see what Beau is in Powerless and if he ever shows up again.

Still job hunting, finding opportunism and try to get away from shambles that is my life but until then, of I go to read some paper pages albeit digital.

Mwah!

Vivian.
