Lauren Asher makes me want to move to Lake Wisteria. I haven’t loved a small town as much since Tessa Bailey first introduced me to the fisherman from Westport. Brendan Taggart & Fox Thornton ring any bells? Oh god. I rarely want this but I NEED Julian Lopez and Dahlia Muñoz to come to the big screens. One of those classic enemies to lover books you know.
Starring an interior designer and billionaire builder of Lopez Luxury, this is a touching romance with infertility at the heart of Dahlia and an unsolved grievance for Julian. Where do I begin? Dahlia and Julian have always had a complicated relationship since college. With Luis Lopez dying leaving a struggling Julian behind, he breaks things of with Dahlia, leaves Stanford (mistake number 1) who then is claimed out by his supposed friend Oliver Creswell all because Julian shut her out (mistake number 2). With one in San Francisco and the other living in the small town of Lake Wisteria, Julian is now trying to keep his distance from a freshly heartbroken rival after that same said friend broke their engagement after finding out of her infertility. The issues? Both their moms are best friends so what do best friends try to do when they have kids? Yup. That's right. Set them up. When Josefina Lopez suggests Julian being the one to get Dahlia out of her depressive rut, he goes about it cautiously. But when a house is a ground-breaking deal for Julian and the same house sparks an interior designer interest, both are compelled to join forces to satisfy each of their needs. In more than one way….. Which means one thing; certain enemies are left spending a lot of time with each other. What do you think happens next? SEE! I told you. Such a great enemies to lover books.
Before I even begin can I just say no disrespect to any author but one line is so overdone. It’s the one when they discover that there's only one bad. Ugggghhhh. I wish I could unread it. It rubs me the wrong way. Maybe because it's so damn predictable or because it makes my stomach churn and heart bleed. Nonetheless still love all books with the one bed dilemma just hate the initial revelation of it.
Right. Now onto the good stuff. Julian is a break from the typical billionaire. For once, he doesn't find satisfaction in the life he has. His house is not a home. Has money without value. Dahlia but not actually Dahlia. If anyone can micro manage his habits it's the one and only women, he tried his hardest to forgot but couldn't.
But now she's single with a 30-year-old Julian coming in terms with past regrets.
Dahlia is a headstrong MC who is struggling with rejection and a descending life all whilst being in a big family who can't help but pry. With her infertility being a secret, it's hard to see other people with children. One thing she doesn't know is Julian never wants children but there’s nothing like alcohol as the effective tongue loosener.
Rosa Muñoz and Josefina Lopez are the funniest mom duo ever. They didn't stop until they could get their children falling back in love. Fina even orchestrated a trip to Detroit featuring the one bed trope I die for.
Oliver Creswell is a douche. He reminds me a lot of Aaron from Icebreaker by Hannah Grace. Just a stuck up, privileged little rugrat with more money than braincells. The way Dahlia stood up to him with Julian aka ex-best roommates with Oliver was just gold. Perfectly done without the extra add-ons that can make certain acts look cheap. Simply, chef’s kiss. Also, prank wars. If you don’t like the prank wars in an enemies to lover book then you haven’t picked up the right stack of paper pages.
Being on bookstagram means sometimes getting a little bit influenced by other people pros and con’s list in a review which is why I try my best NOT to read them no matter how aesthetically pleasing it is. With that said, the ending was a bit meh compared to the other grand finale Asher has written and it was a bit unnecessarily long. Some chapters were just too short to the point where I did not fully grasp the purpose of them. Again, an editing mistake I believe rather than an author error. At the end, there was an extended Chapter 35, that should have been in the main body of work rather than the other little details that – in hindsight – take away from the story whilst hindering the flow of the story. Those are my only 2 rectifications, if you will.
Oh my god. Hold the damn breaks. I just got the Ana Huang newsletter and she what now? She’s entering her sports era! What about the King of Sins series??!! You can’t just start one without finishing the other! Who come’s after Slone and Xavier? This is ridiculous. Okay I’m signing out.
Be sure to check out this read by Lauren Asher. Still doesn’t beat Final Offer for me. Nothing can beat Callahan Kane. Hello. Golden Retriever vibes but a close second. This was an enticing start to the Lakefront Billionaire series so I’m excited to read more about the new couple. Is it Rafa and Ellie? It better be. That duo cracks me up.
Anyways. Book-life crisis here. Ana Huang and me have some chatting to do.
Like always, for the love of God, do not stop reading your new – or old – paper pages.
Until the
next book.
Don’t forget to
keep reading, because as long as you do, it’s making a struggling authors day
that much better. Reach for the starts of success.
