Ella Maise. An author I don’t feel too sure about. I
never write reviews about books I don’t 100% love. I’ve read my fair share with
only ‘Marriage For One’ being my favorite. Now Jack Hawthorne falling
head over heels then marrying Rose Coleson despite knowing its going to blow up
into his face? That I can deal with. Everything else? I’ll pass.
I’ve read most, if not all, of her books. ‘Charlie,
Love and Clichés’ was enticing at first but just got so repetitive. Charlie
was a character I related to so much – I understand the feeling of being
treated as a lackey. Going out of your way to help someone else but still
getting treated with so much disrespect whilst dealing with your own demons is
difficult. It is so demeaning for the individual going through it, so when
Charlie finds her happy new start with William Carter, it makes me feel full
circle too. Somewhere throughout the book, it just became so predictable that I
almost didn’t finish it safe to say I won’t read it again, but Charlie – I get
you.
It was after this that I realized the TikTok favourite ‘Marriage For One’ was written by the same author; it hit the spot. The story
development paired with the plots combined with Mr Jack Hawthorne? Mmmm. Chef’s
kiss. It was a product of perfection that no one would force me to put down.
Jack Hawthorne is strictly business….or so we thought
that is until we find out that he was in love with Rose even before she turned
single. Similar to the Titanic, they’re destined for an end that almost mirrored
one of the movies but alas Rose folded like the majority of the readers. That’s
right, he was in love with someone else’s girlfriend but when she became available
– rather conveniently if I do say so myself – after her ex broke the
engagement, he did what lawyers do best. He attacked. The progression of the
story alongside the characters was really consistent. I cannot remember one
time where I thought it was boring or long which is why I was surprised that
the releases after were just not up to par.
Ella Maise did what she does best when it came to
steamy scenes. The bonding of the ’Around the Corner´ coffee shop made
the end experience that much better and delivery of flowers just so much more sentimental.
It was so loved that Elena Armas author of The Spanish Love Deception
added it into her book. I thought something looked a little too familiar when
Aaron and Lina were flirting in the shop.
There are many arrange marriage tropes however not many do
well but ‘Marriage For One’ is definitely worth spending your bucks on. Ana
Huang & Elena Armas also do a mind-blowing job.
Now, there were 3 books I purchased, which I believe
were older releases from Ella titled; To Love Jason Thorn (2015), To Hate
Adam Connor (2016), The Hardest Fall (2018). Yeah, no. They were a pass from
me. Idea was great, A for plot and effort, but the overall poor implantation rendered
their performances somewhere between satisfactory and good. To Love Jason
Thorn just seemed rushed – it jumped from one point to another without
exploring it too well. There was a bunch of dialogue but no actual back story. However, I found to hate Adam Connor a little better orchestrated. Out of
the three, The Hardest Fall had to have been the best written. The plot
was constructed with meticulous detail to keep the readers drawn in. It was a
sports romance, so I’m biased, obviously. Side note; the writing got better as
the books got along, so I definitely saw progress. If I had to read it again, then it would be the second one just because I love the single dad nanny trope.
See my rating below:
Marriage For One – 5/5 Stars
Charlie, Love and Clichés – 3.75/5 Stars
To Love Jason Thorn – 3/5 Stars
To Hate Adam Connor – 4/5 Stars
The Hardest Fall – 4/5 Stars.
To end this on a lighter, happier note, I want myself
a Jack Hawthrone so put that book in your basket, read it, then come back so we
can all gush over it in the comments together.
Like always, carry on reading some more paper pages
but before you do let me know if you agree or are we agreeing to disagree?
Mwah.
Vivian.
Don’t forget to keep reading, because as long as you
do, it’s making a struggling authors day that much better. Reach for the starts
of success.
